Quick Wins You Can Handle

Squeaky Door Fix

Damn Door!

Skip cooking oil. Use a silicone-based lubricant or light machine oil. Lift the door slightly as you work it into the hinge pins, then wipe away any drips so they don’t stain the floor.

AC Drain & Filter Check

Once a month, swap your AC filter and pour a small cup of vinegar into the drain line. It helps prevent algae clogs and surprise water leaks from the air handler.

Straight Picture Hanging

Use painter’s tape to mark the distance between hooks on the back of the frame. Stick the tape on the wall, level it, drill or nail through the tape, then peel it off.

Caulk Before You Paint

For clean trim lines, run paintable caulk along gaps between trim and wall. Smooth it with a damp finger or tool, let it cure, then paint. Your lines look sharper and the room feels more “finished.”

Safety First: When to Call the Hero

Ladder Basics

Keep the base 1 foot out from the wall for every 4 feet of height. Always maintain three points of contact, and never lean past the sides. If it feels sketchy, it is.

Know Your Shutoffs

Find your main water shutoff and electrical panel before an emergency. Label important breakers in plain language, not just “bedroom #2.” Future-you will be grateful.

Things Not to Wing

Live electrical work, gas lines, and anything structural are “call someone” moments. Saving a little now isn’t worth a bigger repair or a safety risk later.

Not Sure? Call Me.

If you’re staring at a problem and thinking, “I could probably do this… maybe,” that’s a perfect time to reach out. I’m happy to tell you if it’s a DIY or a “let me handle it.”

Seasonal Home Check-In

Once every season, walk your home with a notepad:

  • Look for drips, stains, or soft spots
  • Test smoke & CO detectors
  • Check exterior caulking and weatherstripping
  • Note any “we should fix that soon” items

When the list feels long, send it my way. We’ll tackle it piece by piece.
